Pastor James McDonald of Harvest Bible Chapel here in Chicago, along with Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church in Seattle, are in Haiti as we speak getting the stories of how the earthquake has affected the church in Haiti. They are assessing what can be done to meet the immediate needs of the church in the toughest areas. The goal is to share what they discover and to raise support from churches in North America for the church in Haiti.

Please visit ChurchesHelpingChurches.com for more information, updates, and how you can be a part of this.

So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. Galatians 6:10

I was in Nashville over the weekend for a shoot, and snapped a few pics on the Natchez Trace Bridge. Oh how beautiful are the fall leaves…

My extremely talented friends David Blakeman and Brent Wejrowski recently started a photography business together, called David and Brent. I designed some wedding book layouts to showcase their stunning photography work.

glimmers of hope

Wednesday, June 18th, 2008

I just got back from a trip to Puerto Peñasco (aka Rocky Point) with Love God Love People. I am still having trouble finding the right words to describe how much it made my heart hurt. What I saw there is not ok. It is not ok… that children run around without shoes. It is not ok… that a mother has to watch her children go hungry. It is not ok… that families are living outside in 100+ degree heat, because it is cooler than inside their home. A year ago, I came to Rocky Point on vacation with some of my friends. Little did I know that just a mile down the road there was a whole city of people living like this. In the picture below you can see the high-rise luxury vacation condos in the distance while seeing an endless sea of tiny shacks that run for miles. This is not ok.

However, it is evident that God is on the move in this city. In the midst of all the brokenness, there are tiny glimmers of hope. There is an outpouring of generous hearts making a difference here. This city is finding joy in the small things. It is full of love. God is up to something big and it is incredible that I am able to be a tiny part of it!

grad time is here

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

My little bro is graduating from high school. I can’t believe how fast the time has passed. Of course I wanted to design the invitations for his grad party. I drew a quick sketch from one of his senior pics, and props to bittbox for the rockin spraypaint brushes.

reflections

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

A very wise person once said, “It is so important to remember that design is a part of life;
it is not all of life.” There are often times when I forget this truth. Actually, I tend to forget this
every semester.

I am passionate about design.

I get lost in my work.

I get so caught up that meals or conversation become an interruption.

For the past three years, my design education has occupied most of my time. Looking back I am amazed at the number of projects completed and how many hours have gone into them. There have been moments of pure joy and satisfaction, accompanied by sleepless nights and a few tears shed along the way. There have been computer crashes, probable impossibles, and a few minor injuries. The most recent battle wound invloved my finger, a razorblade, and a portfolio board. Need I say more.

I would not trade one second of it.

Each moment has brought me to where I am today.

I have become a better designer because of those challenges.

My time as a student in the Visual Communication Design program at Arizona State University is nearing completion. I have two semesters remaining. I know that I will never stop learning. I am learning that I can easily make design all of my life, but there are other parts of life that are way too important to put on hold. Living is a learning process, and my journey has just begun.

This is my work.

My work is part of my life.

But it is not all of it.

My major project this semester was the program book, containing all of my work from the past 3 years. Below is the cover, and two spreads from the book.
